Kiambu – Grieving Family Distances Itself from Political Drama

The family of Erastus Nduati Muigai, whose burial ended in chaos, has spoken out. Muigai’s father, Muigai King’ori, denied any involvement with politicians. Speaking during a press briefing, he insisted that no leader had ever visited their home before his son’s death.

“No one can claim they saw me with any politician. We didn’t conspire with anyone,” King’ori declared.

Chaos Disrupts Burial Ceremony
The burial, held in Limuru, initially attracted several leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. However, things spiraled out of control during former MP Peter Mwathi’s speech. Disruptors destroyed the VIP tent, hurled chairs, and stoned vehicles belonging to Gachagua and other officials.

As violence escalated, the family removed the body while mourners fled in panic.

The grieving family not only mourned their son but also faced financial burdens from the damages caused. Broken chairs, which they had rented, posed a significant challenge. However, local MP John Kiragu Chege offered much-needed support

“The only issue we faced was the chairs. The honorable member provided replacements and helped ease our burden,” King’ori said.

Angry Elder Curses Disruptors
An elderly mourner expressed anger over the chaos. He condemned those responsible for disrespecting the funeral and disrupting a moment meant for mourning.

“We planned this funeral with dignity. I curse those who ruined it. They will one day feel our pain,” the elder stated emotionally.

Calls for Respect During Funerals

The incident has ignited discussions on respecting funerals and keeping political tensions out of such events. The family hopes their son’s memory won’t be overshadowed by the unfortunate events that marred his final farewell.
