EPRA Reduces Fuel Prices by Ksh2
Kenyans are set to enjoy modest relief at the pump after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced a reduction in fuel prices across the country, effective from January 15 to February 14, 2026. The cut follows EPRA’s latest monthly fuel price review and comes amid sustained public concern over the high cost of living.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the regulator said it had lowered the maximum pump prices for Super Petrol, Automotive Diesel and Kerosene by an average of Ksh2 per litre. The move marks the first downward adjustment in several months and reflects improved market conditions both locally and internationally.
“The prices of Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene have been reduced by KSh2.00, KSh1.00 and KSh1.00 per litre, respectively,” EPRA announced.
As a result of the review, motorists and households in Nairobi will now pay a maximum of Ksh182.52 per litre of Super Petrol, Ksh170.47 for Diesel and Ksh153.78 for Kerosene. The new prices took effect at midnight and will remain in force for the next 30 days.

For the past three months, fuel prices in the capital had remained unchanged, with Super Petrol retailing at Ksh184.52, Diesel at Ksh171.47 and Kerosene at Ksh154.78 per litre. EPRA said the adjustment was informed by a combination of global oil market trends and domestic economic factors.
A breakdown of prices across major towns shows regional variations, largely influenced by transportation and distribution costs. In Mombasa, which continues to record some of the lowest pump prices in the country, Super Petrol will retail at Ksh179.24 per litre, Diesel at Ksh167.19 and Kerosene at Ksh150.49.
In contrast, consumers in western Kenya will continue to pay higher prices. In Kisumu, Super Petrol is set at Ksh190.88 per litre, Diesel at Ksh178.83 and Kerosene at Ksh162.13. In the Rift Valley, Nakuru residents will pay Ksh181.56 for Petrol, Ksh169.87 for Diesel and Ksh153.21 for Kerosene, while Eldoret motorists will see prices of Ksh182.38, Ksh170.68 and Ksh154.03 respectively.
EPRA attributed the price reduction largely to the strengthening of the Kenyan Shilling against the United States dollar. In recent months, the local currency has appreciated by about three per cent, trading at an average of Ksh128 to the dollar compared to approximately Ksh132 in the previous quarter.

“The improved performance of the Kenya Shilling has reduced the cost of importing petroleum products, which are denominated in US dollars,” the regulator noted.
According to EPRA, the appreciation of the shilling, coupled with relatively stable international oil prices, led to a decline in the average landed cost of imported fuel during the review period. The landed cost of Super Petrol fell from about Ksh73,800 per cubic metre in the previous pricing cycle to around Ksh71,500 per cubic metre in January 2026. Diesel and Kerosene also recorded modest reductions in landing costs.
The landed cost includes the Free on Board (FOB) price, ocean freight charges and insurance costs, all of which directly influence local pump prices.
The reduction is expected to offer some relief to households and businesses that have been grappling with high transport and energy costs. Analysts say even a small decrease in fuel prices can help ease pressure on transport fares and the cost of goods, particularly food items that rely heavily on road transport.
However, economists caution that the impact on overall inflation may be limited.
“While the reduction is welcome, it may not significantly lower the cost of living given the cumulative fuel price increases recorded over the past year,” an economist observed.

EPRA has assured consumers that it will continue to closely monitor global oil markets and domestic economic conditions.
“The Authority will adjust pump prices as necessary to reflect changes in international prices and local factors,” the regulator said.
