Ensure Children Get Typhoid, Measles-Rubella Jabs In 48 Hours, Health Ministry Warns Parents

The Ministry of Health has issued a strong warning to parents: ensure your child is vaccinated within the next 48 hours.

The 10-day national immunisation drive, which started on Saturday, July 5, will end on Monday, July 14, 2025. Parents and guardians are urged to act swiftly to protect their children from Measles-Rubella (MR) and Typhoid (TCV).

Children between 9 and 59 months should receive the Measles-Rubella vaccine, while those aged 9 months to 14 years are eligible for the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine.

“Vaccination Is Safe, Effective, And Lifesaving”

Speaking on Saturday, June 12, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale emphasized:

“So far, 3.5 million children have received the MR vaccine out of a target of 6.5 million, while 12.1 million have received the TCV vaccine out of 19.2 million targeted.”

He added that:

“Notably, over 4,000 zero-dose children — those never previously vaccinated — have now received both MR and TCV vaccines, strengthening population immunity.”

Vaccines Are Free — No Excuse

Duale reminded the public that:

“All parents and caregivers should visit any public health facilities and outreach sites such as schools, churches, mosques, and markets to access the vaccines free of charge in the next three days.”

Only 3 Days Left — Don’t Wait

With only three days left in the campaign and two mop-up days, the CS issued a heartfelt appeal:

“The Ministry urges all caregivers to act now. Vaccination is safe, effective, and lifesaving.”

He noted both vaccines are WHO-approved and have passed rigorous international and local safety reviews.

Rising Cases, Rising Urgency

Kenya is battling a sharp rise in antimicrobial-resistant typhoid and measles, and children under 15 are the most affected.

“The vaccination will be fundamental in shielding children from these highly preventable diseases,” Duale stressed.

Fight Misinformation With Facts

The Ministry cautioned against false claims, urging parents to seek information from trusted sources.

“From urban centres to remote areas, parents and caregivers have demonstrated a strong commitment to protecting children from these preventable but potentially deadly diseases,” Duale noted.
