EACC Detectives Raid Nairobi Urban Planning Chief Officer’s Home, Recover Over KSh65 Million in Cash
The dramatic operation, conducted on the morning of Thursday, June 4, targeted the home of Patrick Analo Akivaga, Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning, as investigators pursued allegations of corruption and economic crimes within the county government.
The raid marks one of the most significant anti-corruption operations involving a senior county official in recent months and is expected to place renewed scrutiny on governance and financial management at City Hall.
“Today, EACC conducted a successful search operation at the residence of Patrick Analo Akivaga, Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning at the Nairobi City County Government, as part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and economic crimes within the County,” the commission stated.

According to EACC, investigators discovered large sums of cash hidden in various locations during the search.
The combined amount brought the total cash recovered during the operation to roughly KSh65.3 million.
Photographs released by the commission showed bundles of cash packed inside travel suitcases, which detectives subsequently seized as evidence.
Beyond the cash recovery, detectives also confiscated a range of documents and assets believed to hold evidentiary value.
Investigators also collected electronic accessories and other documentary materials that are expected to undergo forensic examination as part of the inquiry.
The EACC indicated that all recovered exhibits remain in its custody as investigations continue.

The latest developments have once again brought attention to Nairobi County’s long-standing history of corruption allegations and financial management controversies.
Among the most notable cases was the 2018 arrest of former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and several county officials over an alleged KSh213 million fraud scheme.
In another landmark case, former Chief Finance Officer Jimmy Kiamba and former County Secretary Lilian Ndegwa were sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2022 after the High Court overturned an earlier acquittal related to an alleged KSh18 million procurement scandal.
More recently, Nairobi County has faced scrutiny over allegations involving billions of shillings in legal fee payments to law firms.
As investigations into the latest case gather momentum, anti-corruption campaigners are likely to view the EACC operation as a significant test of the government’s commitment to tackling graft in public institutions.

The EACC has maintained that investigations are continuing and that any individuals found culpable will be subjected to the full force of the law.
