Don’t Talk About Uhuru – Gachagua Warns Duale Over Comments on 4th President
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has reignited his political feud with Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, issuing a stern warning against what he described as continued attacks on former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking during a church service at ACK St. Mark’s Maragua Church in Murang’a County on Sunday, April 19, Gachagua criticised Duale for remarks made a day earlier, accusing him of showing disrespect to the country’s fourth Head of State. The former Deputy President used the platform to defend Uhuru’s leadership record while drawing comparisons with the current administration.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta never sent goons and police to beat and tear gas William Ruto as Deputy President. He allowed him to serve his term,” Gachagua stated, referencing past tensions within government ranks.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta never stopped William Ruto from moving around the country. He was everywhere. In this mountain, he was here every week, and President Uhuru Kenyatta never stopped him,” he added, pointing to what he described as a more tolerant political environment under the previous administration.
The latest remarks come in response to comments by Duale, who had urged Uhuru to step back from active politics. The Health CS accused the former president of undermining the current administration led by William Ruto and attempting to influence political alignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Duale also revisited historical tensions between Uhuru and Ruto, alleging that the former president had at one point attempted to have his deputy impeached. He further accused Uhuru of politically sidelining Ruto during their time in office.

However, Gachagua dismissed these claims, arguing that Duale was defending actions that, in his view, were evident to the public. He described the treatment of leaders within the current administration as “very, very brutal and extremely inhuman”, both during and after their time in office.
Beyond the political exchange, Gachagua shifted focus to concerns surrounding the Social Health Authority (SHA), raising alarm over what he described as a looming financial crisis within the institution. He claimed the agency is facing significant liabilities that could threaten its sustainability in the near future.
“Today, as we speak, SHA has liabilities up to Ksh98 billion… it is a walking zombie that will collapse in a minute,” Gachagua alleged, warning that the situation could result in one of the largest corporate losses in the country’s history if not addressed.
The exchange between Gachagua and Duale reflects growing political tensions as the country approaches the next election cycle, with leaders increasingly positioning themselves and their allies within shifting alliances.

As the political discourse intensifies, attention is likely to remain on how these exchanges impact governance, public confidence, and the broader dynamics heading into the 2027 elections.
