David Maraga Lists His Agenda as He Warms Up for Presidency: “We Must Reset Kenya”
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has reignited national debate after dropping powerful hints that he may contest the presidency in 2027. While not officially declaring his candidacy, Maraga’s bold words and stirring call for a national “reset” have stirred both hope and curiosity among Kenyans desperate for change.
“Kenya Is Crying for Help”
Speaking passionately at the People’s Dialogue Festival at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, the 74-year-old legal icon outlined his vision for a transformed Kenya. His message was clear: the nation needs deep and urgent reforms.
“Now more than ever, it is clear that Kenya needs a reset,” Maraga declared. “We must end impunity and corruption. We must save our collapsing economy, education, and healthcare.
Maraga’s Agenda for Change
Maraga didn’t stop there. He stressed the need to revive the rule of law and hold accountable those who have violated the Constitution.
“We must bring to book those who have flagrantly violated the Constitution. It is time for true change. For a reset,” he said.
These strong sentiments come amid growing frustration over the current regime’s handling of governance. Many feel ignored and betrayed.
A Man of Integrity and Action
Maraga’s name has recently been floated by Kenyans seeking an honest and principled leader. His supporters praise him for standing firm against executive overreach during his tenure as Chief Justice.
Notably, Maraga made history in 2017 when he led the Supreme Court in nullifying a presidential election—a first in Africa.
“He is bold, firm, and guided by integrity,” said former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi. “Maraga is what Kenya needs now more than ever.”

A Rising Political Star?
Although Maraga has not made an official announcement, he admitted to “thinking seriously” about running. He cited widespread calls from citizens urging him to step forward.
“I have been approached by many who want me to run. I am still consulting,” he said at the festival.
Interference in Institutions Worries Him
Maraga also raised alarms over the growing influence of the executive in independent institutions. He vowed to restore balance and autonomy if given the chance.
“We must push for fidelity to our Constitution and its full implementation,” he said.
As 2027 draws closer, all eyes are now on David Maraga.
Will he rise from the courtroom to the State House?
