Council of Governors Calls Emergency Meeting After Kahiga’s Controversial Remarks on Raila’s Death
The Council of Governors (CoG) has urgently convened an extraordinary meeting following shocking remarks made by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga. His comments, which appeared to celebrate the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, have sparked national outrage.
“God Came Through for Us” — Kahiga’s Words Ignite Fury
“You can see what had been planned, but God brought something up. Now it’s total confusion. Everybody can see that,” Kahiga said.
“We did not harbour hate for anyone, but God came through for us.”
He claimed Raila’s death would redirect government resources back to Central Kenya, which had allegedly been sidelined.

“All goodies were being directed there because of tomorrow’s plans. It seemed like they did away with us,” he added.
“But God came and brought this thing.”
“Reckless and Inhumane” — CoG Condemns Kahiga’s Statement
Immediately after the remarks, CoG Chairperson Ahmed Abdullahi issued a strong statement. He announced an emergency meeting scheduled for Wednesday, October 22.
“In light of the above, I have convened an urgent Extra-Ordinary Council Meeting to be held tomorrow morning to deliberate on these unfortunate utterances,” Abdullahi stated.
“Further statements will follow.”
The Council described Kahiga’s comments as reckless, insensitive, and deeply unfortunate.
“Raila Was a Statesman” — Governors Defend Odinga’s Legacy

“It is inhumane and unacceptable to celebrate his death on account of perceived political calculations,” the Council declared.
“Raila Odinga was and will forever remain a Statesman whose contributions are embedded in the annals of our country’s history.”
“As the Council of Governors, we wish to disassociate in toto with the sentiments of Governor Kahiga,” they added.
“Those are personal remarks that do not reflect or represent the views of the Council of Governors.”
“Public Outrage Grows” — Kenyans Demand Accountability
“This is not just political. It’s about human decency,” one citizen posted online.
“We must hold leaders accountable for their words,” another added.
The backlash has united voices from all political sides, showing the depth of respect Kenyans hold for Raila Odinga.
