Boni Khalwale Breaks Ranks with UDA, Endorses DAP-K’s Seth Panyako in Malava Race

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has stirred political waters by publicly opposing his own party’s candidate in the Malava by-election. On Tuesday, Khalwale declared support for DAP-K’s Seth Panyako, citing betrayal by President William Ruto’s administration.

“You Remembered Others, But Not Malulu’s Son”

Khalwale expressed deep frustration over the UDA’s decision to deny Ryan Injendi, son of the late MP Malulu Injendi, the party ticket.

“Me President, when Malulu died, Baringo Senator Cheptumo also died, and that was also when Migori’s Dalmas Otieno died,” Khalwale said.

“For the two, you gave Cheptumo’s widow a Ministry and Dalmas’ wife a big state job. But for Malulu, you did not remember the wife or even the son.”

He accused the party of sidelining Ryan despite similar cases receiving state appointments.

“We Will Decide Without Your Interference”

Khalwale didn’t mince words. He made it clear that Malava voters would make their own decision, free from external pressure.

“I thought you would allow him to serve as MP. But just as you denied Ryan that opportunity and brought an MCA, I have declared that we will decide who we will vote for without interference from your office,” he added.

“Was That CS Sent by You?”

The senator also claimed that a cabinet secretary insulted him for not backing UDA’s David Ndakwa. He demanded clarity from the President.

“Was that CS sent by you? If not, please advise him to leave the people of Malava alone,” Khalwale said.

He reminded Ruto of the region’s loyalty and warned that future support depends on respect and fairness.

“We respect you. If you want votes in 2027, there’s no one else but me who will help you get votes in Kakamega,” he declared.

“Why Challenge a Young Man Like Me?”

Ryan Injendi, who lost the UDA ticket on September 21, blamed Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi for meddling in the primaries.

“We were with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and we wanted to deliberate amongst ourselves who would get the ticket, but were advised to vote instead,” Ryan said.

“To the office of the PCS, what was so big in Malava that you had to come and challenge a young man like me?” he quipped.

Despite his disappointment, Ryan congratulated Ndakwa and urged him to keep Malava aligned with the government.
