Kilifi Horror Reloaded: Gov’t to Unearth New Cult Mass Graves in Kwa Binzaro
A chilling cloud of fear and horror is once again descending on Kilifi as authorities prepare to exhume more bodies in Kwa Binzaro village. This operation follows fresh suspicions of a new cult eerily similar to the infamous Shakahola massacre that shook the nation just a year ago.
The Kenyan government has confirmed that several mass graves suspected to contain victims of religious radicalisation will be opened soon.
“This is not just a crime scene—it’s a humanitarian crisis,” said Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor on Wednesday, moments after Malindi Resident Magistrate Irene Thamari gave the official directive to begin the operation.
In her ruling, the magistrate tasked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) with overseeing the exhumations. Alongside them, forensic pathologists and the Malindi Sub-county public health team will conduct postmortems, DNA testing, and toxicology analysis.

“We need to establish how they died and who they were,” said State Prosecutor Judy Gachuru.
“Initial evidence points to starvation and suffocation. This is a clear case of manipulated faith turned deadly,” she added.
The Kwa Binzaro graves are suspected to be shallow pits, hurriedly dug to bury followers believed to have been brainwashed by cult-like teachings. Investigators say the case has now become a matter of urgent national security.
Meanwhile, detectives are racing against time to finalise logistics. The DCI is assembling forensic experts and preparing heavy equipment for what insiders describe as an emotionally charged and potentially explosive mission.
Security around the site is being intensified to block off unauthorised access and preserve the integrity of the investigation.
“This time, we must get it right—no cover-ups, no delays,” a senior investigator said on condition of anonymity.
Public health officers will also be present to ensure safe handling of human remains, with the exhumed bodies expected to be transferred to the Malindi Sub-county Hospital mortuary.

This terrifying development echoes the Shakahola massacre linked to controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie. In 2023, over 430 bodies were discovered buried in shallow graves in Shakahola Forest. Mackenzie, founder of Goodnews International Church, and 94 of his followers are currently in custody.
“They told people to fast to meet God. Instead, they met death,” said a former follower during a previous court hearing.
Now, all eyes are on Kwa Binzaro. Has history repeated itself?
