Edwin Sifuna Says He’s Ready to Quit ODM If Asked

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has once again stirred political waters after boldly stating he would resign if the party leadership lost confidence in him.

Sifuna Speaks Out on Internal ODM Tensions

During an interview on Citizen TV, the Nairobi Senator addressed growing friction within ODM. He tackled criticism over the party’s softening stance toward the government and his own controversial position within it.

“If I were asked to step aside as SG of ODM, I would,” he stated.

“This position is not mine. If the same person who gave me the job said today they’ve lost confidence in me, I’d relinquish it without blinking.”

His statement came amid sharp criticism from party members who believe ODM has abandoned its role as the government’s chief critic.

Refusing to Quit — For Now

Despite mounting pressure, Sifuna held his ground, saying he still believes in ODM’s core values.

“The reason I will not resign yet is that I have not given up,” he said.

“There is still belief and trust within the ranks that Baba knows what’s right for the people.”

He emphasized he would only leave if he felt the party had lost its way.

“On the day I give up, I will say it publicly — that I’ve lost the battle to rescue this party,” he added.

Rejects Forming New Party, Warns Against Sentiment

Sifuna rejected any idea of forming or joining a splinter party.

“I’d rather be a small fish in a big pond than a big fish in some small pond,” he declared.

When asked about ODM’s position in the 2027 elections, he was confident.

“ODM has not run out of leaders. We can still produce presidential candidates,” Sifuna insisted.

He added that the mission to unseat President Ruto would require unity, not emotional choices.

“The project of removing William Ruto does not allow for sentiment. Even Sifuna is not an angel,” he admitted.

Open to Alliances, Even with Matiang’i

Sifuna also weighed in on the idea of working with former CS Fred Matiang’i. Despite Matiang’i’s tainted legacy, Sifuna left the door open.

“Matiang’i has his faults. Examine everyone’s history. But if he can help us remove Ruto, so be it,” he noted.
