Catholic Bishops Warn Ruto: ‘Kenya Is in a Moral Crisis!’ – Call for Dialogue, Justice, and Respect for Life
Catholic Bishops have broken their silence. In a bold and emotional statement issued on Tuesday, June 24, the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) called on President William Ruto to urgently initiate dialogue with key stakeholders.
They warned that political tensions in Kenya were escalating and could spiral out of control without open, honest conversations.
“The political opponents must learn mature dialogue. Government must listen and sit with other non-state actors and the faith leaders,” read the bishops’ statement.
They further stressed the need to include the youth at the table.
“The youth must be ready to sit and be listened to as they listen to other views.”
Wrong Must Be Called Wrong
The bishops insisted that no side should justify wrongdoing.
“Wrong must be called wrong and apologies and restitutions discussed,” they urged.
According to KCCB, solving the current crisis must involve collective effort from all sectors, especially those in power.

“The Government must use its set institutions to consult and study issues,” they added.
Police Brutality Under Fire
KCCB didn’t hold back when condemning recent state violence. They expressed deep concern over abductions, disappearances, and alleged extrajudicial killings by security forces.
“Security officers are sworn to protect, not to harm,” the bishops stated firmly.
“When those charged with upholding law and order become the source of fear and injustice, it signals a moral crisis in the State.”
They noted that such cases were not random.

“These incidents are not isolated. They follow a disturbing pattern that threatens our national commitment to the Constitution and human rights.”
Their strongest warning came in a chilling reminder:
“The life of every Kenyan matters. Kenya must stop at a loss of life and not ‘just move on.’”
Political Leaders Slammed
KCCB also lashed out at politicians for exploiting grief for political gain.
“These tragedies should not be exploited by political operators to gain mileage,” they warned.
They condemned leaders who attend funerals of protest victims only to push personal agendas.
“Gathering around mourners or victims only to deliver personal advertisements while offering no relief solutions is disgraceful.”
The bishops urged political figures to stand for unity, not division.

“Politicians should advocate for solidarity and peace, not deliver insulting, dismissive, arrogant statements.”
Nation Braces for June 25 Protests
As emotions run high, the youth are preparing mass protests for June 25. These demonstrations will honor victims of last year’s ‘Occupy Parliament’ movement.
