Ex-Nairobi PPO Anthony Kibuchi Dies at 67 After Brave Cancer Battle
“He had been unwell for a while. Sadly, he succumbed despite all efforts,” said a family spokesperson.
Just days before his passing, the family had appealed for 15 pints of blood and 4 pints of platelets to keep him stable. His condition, however, worsened.
A Fearless, No-Nonsense Officer Remembered
Kibuchi was known as a tough, outspoken, and fearless officer during his years in the Kenya Police Service. He held top positions, including Provincial Police Officer (PPO) in Nyanza, North Eastern, and eventually Nairobi.
He rose through the ranks during the Mwai Kibaki era, where his leadership style stood out for its firmness and clarity.
“He wasn’t just a boss. He led from the front,” a former colleague shared.

But he also engaged ordinary Kenyans, urging them to report crime and work closely with the police.

“He believed safety wasn’t just a police job. It needed everyone,” a former city officer recalled.
Legal Drama with Chief Justice Mutunga
Kibuchi’s high-profile career wasn’t free of drama. In 2012, he clashed with then–Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.
Mutunga allegedly accused Kibuchi of ignoring a court order, dismissing it as mere “tissue paper.”
“He gave Mutunga seven days to retract the statement or face legal action,” media reports stated.
The matter grabbed national headlines and stirred debate about respect between arms of government. Kibuchi retired later that year, handing over to Benson Kibui.
Final Journey to Kirinyaga

Many remember him not only as a firm police boss, but also a man who valued public service.
“He gave his life to law enforcement. His legacy will outlive him,” said a family member.
