Tragedy in Lamu: GSU Officer Kills Wife and Child, Then Himself in Early Morning Horror
“We Heard a Loud Bang” – Residents in Shock
Startled neighbours rushed to the home of a local General Service Unit (GSU) officer. What they found left them speechless.
“We heard a loud bang, which startled us. When we rushed outside and gathered other neighbours, we found that a fellow resident had been killed by her partner,” one neighbour shared.
Inside the house lay three lifeless bodies—the officer, his wife, and their young daughter.
Family Argument Turns Deadly
According to neighbours, the tragedy followed a heated argument between the couple the night before. Tensions simmered until they exploded into violence.
The officer allegedly shot his wife twice. He then fired a bullet at his daughter, killing her instantly. Moments later, he turned the gun on himself.
Bodies Moved, Investigations Underway
Police transferred the bodies to Mpeketoni Sub-County Hospital Mortuary. Investigators are now piecing together the full picture of what led to the fatal shooting.
The police have not disclosed the officer’s identity. However, they promise to dig deep into what caused this tragic collapse of a young family.

Not an Isolated Incident
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time such a tragedy has occurred. Cases of officers killing family members or taking their own lives have been rising.
In April, a police officer in Kakdhimu, Homa Bay County, committed a similar act. He killed three children, two of whom were his own, before taking his own life while on leave in Marsabit.

Authorities later found a note believed to be from the officer, offering a glimpse into his troubled mental state.
Police Mental Health in Spotlight
The rising cases have prompted the National Police Service (NPS) to act. To address mental health issues, the NPS recently set up a counselling unit.
This team includes mental health professionals assigned to identify and help struggling officers before tragedy strikes.
Still, many believe more needs to be done to protect both officers and their families.
