Justin Muturi’s Security Detail Withdrawn Days after Dropping Bombshell against Ruto

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has publicly accused the government of withdrawing his security detail in retaliation for his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.

In a fiery statement delivered shortly after the incident, Muturi confirmed the move occurred on the evening of Sunday, April 7, around 7:30 p.m.

“My security detail was withdrawn last night at around 7.30 p.m. Two police officers who were attached to me by virtue of my position as former Speaker of the National Assembly were told not to report on duty today,” he stated.

“They’ve Dialed the Wrong Number”

Muturi did not mince words. He condemned the government’s decision as unjustified and unlawful, asserting that his security is a right, not a privilege.

“If this is yet another attempt to cow me into silence, they’ve dialed yet another wrong number,” he added.

Notably, Muturi served as Speaker of the National Assembly for two terms and is therefore entitled to state-funded personal security under the Retirement Benefits Act of 2015.

Political Tensions Escalate

This fallout occurs amid rising tensions in the Kenya Kwanza coalition, where cracks are widening between top officials.

Muturi has grown increasingly vocal since his abrupt removal from Cabinet during a recent reshuffle.

He has accused Ruto’s administration of corruption, incompetence, and gross human rights violations — particularly highlighting the abductions of youth during last year’s anti-government protests.

Heartbreakingly, Muturi’s own son was abducted during the unrest, only to be released later, shaken but alive.

“They were instructed not to report on the basis that I am fighting the government,” Muturi said, calling the act a dangerous abuse of power.

What Does the Law Say?

According to the Retirement Benefits Act, Muturi is entitled to:

  • 80% pension based on his final monthly salary.
  • A lump-sum payment equal to one year’s salary per term served.
  • A saloon car and a four-wheel drive vehicle, replaced every four years.
  • Comprehensive medical coverage for himself and his spouse, both locally and internationally.

Yet, the sudden security withdrawal seems to directly contradict these legally guaranteed benefits.

Silence from State House

The government has not issued an official statement regarding Muturi’s claims.

Meanwhile, Kenyans on social media have expressed mixed reactions — some demanding justice, others urging calm.

Whether this is political retaliation or simple restructuring remains unclear, but one thing is certain: Muturi is not backing down.
