British Man Killed by Ruto’s Convoy Was Visiting Family in Kenya

A British national lost his life after being hit by a vehicle in President William Ruto’s convoy. The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, March 15, near Adams Arcade along Ngong Road, Nairobi.

Eyewitnesses said police had warned pedestrians to clear the way as the motorcade approached. However, 79-year-old Edgar Riches did not seem to hear the warning. As he attempted to cross the road, a support vehicle at the rear of the convoy struck him.

Driver Speeds Away, Public Outraged

The driver did not stop after the accident, sparking public anger. Many Kenyans criticized the lack of accountability and demanded justice for the deceased.

BBC confirmed that the accident happened after Ruto’s vehicle had already passed. The support car, part of the convoy, was responsible for the fatal crash.

Riches Was Visiting Family

New details reveal that Riches was in Kenya to visit his sister and nephew. His body was taken to Lee Funeral Home as investigations continued.

Riches, a dedicated Catholic from Poole, England, was well-known for his generosity. Ann Stribley, president of the Poole Conservative Association, described him as a quiet, charitable man.

“Edgar raised money for charities and was a kind-hearted soul. His death is a big loss to our community,” Stribley said.

Driver Arrested and Released on Bail

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the government vehicle was arrested. However, he was later released on bail as investigations continued.

The police urged pedestrians to remain alert while crossing roads. They also encouraged eyewitnesses to report any useful information to help with the case.

British High Commission Responds

The British High Commission acknowledged the incident and stated they were in contact with Kenyan authorities. They assured Riches’ family of their support during this difficult time.

As tributes pour in from the UK and Kenya, questions remain about the government’s response to such accidents. Many are calling for stricter measures to prevent future tragedies.
