John Kyama: DCI Granted 21 Days to Investigate Shocking Wife Murder Case
The Arrest and Discovery
Police apprehended Kyama early Tuesday morning, January 21, near Kelly Towers in Huruma. He was carrying a heavy backpack, which raised suspicion.
“Upon searching, officers found human body parts concealed in the bag,” said Corporal Kassim Yakub of the DCI. Kyama later confessed the remains belonged to his 19-year-old wife, Joy Fridah Munani, whom he had allegedly killed during a domestic dispute.
Grisly Finds at His Residence
Following the confession, Kyama led officers to his single-room home. There, additional body parts were discovered stashed under the bed. Investigators recovered a blood-stained kitchen knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, and female clothing belonging to the deceased.
The house floor was soaked with blood, painting a disturbing picture of the crime scene.
Court Grants 21-Day Detention
Kyama was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, January 22. Milimani Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe approved a 21-day detention request from DCI detectives. The detectives argued they needed more time for DNA testing, a postmortem examination, and a mental health assessment of the suspect.
“The suspect is a flight risk and poses a potential threat to public safety,” police said in court. Kyama, unrepresented by a lawyer, fidgeted nervously during the hearing. Witnesses observed him rubbing a piece of paper against his face while in handcuffs.
Motivation and Investigation
Officers revealed that Kyama claimed he murdered his wife on suspicion of infidelity. The detectives are working to locate the remaining body parts and establish a clearer motive.

The recovered remains were sent to the City Mortuary for postmortem analysis. Authorities have intensified their efforts to unravel the shocking crime and bring justice to the victim.
Outrage and Calls for Justice
This horrific incident has sparked public outrage, with many decrying the rise in gender-based violence. Advocates are urging the government to address the growing number of women murdered in domestic disputes.
As detectives continue their probe, the spotlight remains on Kyama’s gruesome actions and the broader issue of violence against women.
