Nairobi, Kenya – Shock and horror gripped Huruma Estate after a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the brutal murder of his teenage wife. John Kiama Wambua, accused of killing and dismembering his 19-year-old wife, Joy Fridah Munani, was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, January 22.

The chilling crime came to light during a routine police patrol at Kelly Towers in Huruma on Tuesday, January 21. Officers stopped Kiama, who appeared suspicious while carrying a heavy backpack.
“With reasons to believe that Wambua could be ferrying something illegal, the officers conducted a search,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported. “To their shock, they discovered part of a mutilated human body.”

Upon interrogation, Kiama confessed that the remains belonged to his wife.

In court, Kiama admitted he did not have legal representation. The prosecution sought to detain him for 21 more days to allow detectives to complete investigations.

The recovered remains were transferred to the City Mortuary for examination as the probe continued. Crime scene investigators processed the suspect’s home, seeking to piece together events that led to the horrifying crime.
Despite the shocking details, Kiama appeared calm in court. Authorities are now focused on determining what drove him to commit such a brutal act against his young wife.
