Goon Alleges Police and Politician Involvement in All Saints’ Cathedral Attack as Investigations Intensify

NAIROBI, Kenya – Fresh allegations have emerged regarding the violent disruption of a public forum at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi, with one of the individuals allegedly involved claiming that the operation was coordinated by influential political figures and aided by rogue police officers.

The claims, which surfaced during a televised interview aired on Sunday, June 15, have added a new dimension to an incident that has sparked widespread public concern and condemnation from religious leaders, civil society organizations, and political figures across the country.

The attack occurred on June 12 during a public engagement meeting hosted at All Saints’ Cathedral, where participants had gathered to discuss issues surrounding the 2026/2027 national budget. The event was interrupted by a group of individuals who stormed the venue, causing panic and temporarily disrupting proceedings.

Speaking anonymously during the interview, one of the alleged participants described what he claimed was a carefully organized operation that began a day before the incident.

According to the individual, recruits were initially approached on the evening of June 11 and promised payment in exchange for disrupting what they were told was a political gathering associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Nairobi’s central business district.

“We were informed that there was a meeting linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the CBD, and we were promised Ksh2,000 for a quick assignment to disrupt it,” the individual claimed.

The recruit further alleged that participants were instructed to arrive with motorcycles, a move he believes was intended to facilitate rapid movement and a quick exit from the scene.

However, on the day of the operation, the group allegedly received new instructions directing them to All Saints’ Cathedral instead of the originally mentioned location.

According to his account, members of the group were surprised by the change in venue but proceeded with the mission after being assured that all arrangements had been made.

The individual further alleged that several plainclothes police officers were embedded within the group and played a role in coordinating activities at the scene.

“When we arrived, we found police officers who appeared to be working with us. They instructed us where to leave our motorcycles and guided movements around the venue,” he claimed.

One of the most striking allegations involved assurances reportedly given to the group that there were no surveillance cameras at the church compound.

The recruit claimed panic erupted after some members noticed visible CCTV cameras around the venue, prompting fears that their identities could be captured.

“We had been told there were no CCTV cameras. Once someone spotted a camera, confusion broke out because the officers who were with us suddenly denied any connection to the operation,” he alleged.

The claims have not been independently verified, and neither the alleged politician nor the police officers mentioned in the account have been publicly identified.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen issues a statement on the multi-agency security facility along the Moyale-Marsabit-Isiolo road corridor after a meeting on May 15, 2026.

Authorities have since launched investigations into the incident.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has condemned the disruption and assured the public that all individuals responsible will face the law regardless of their political affiliations.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has also confirmed that CCTV footage from the church is being analyzed to identify suspects captured during the attack.

According to investigators, at least two suspects have already been arrested, with efforts underway to track down additional individuals believed to have participated in the incident.

The attack has drawn sharp criticism from religious organizations and human rights groups, who described it as an assault on freedom of assembly and democratic discourse.

Leaders from various sectors have called for a transparent investigation to establish who planned, financed, and executed the operation.

As investigations continue, the emerging allegations are likely to intensify debate over political violence, the use of hired gangs in public affairs, and the need for accountability within security agencies.

For many Kenyans, the outcome of the probe will be viewed as a critical test of the government’s commitment to justice, transparency, and the protection of constitutional freedoms.
