How Much Majembe Will Get After Knocking Out Mbavu Destroyer in Vurugu Fight
The bout, staged at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, drew widespread national attention, culminating in a fourth-round technical knockout (TKO) that sealed Majembe’s triumph. What began as a social media rivalry quickly evolved into a major sporting spectacle, attracting fans, sponsors, and political interest alike.
Majembe’s victory came after a tense and closely contested fight, which ultimately ended when his opponent was unable to continue after receiving a decisive blow. While the punch sparked debate among fans over its legality, the match officials upheld the decision after reviewing the circumstances.
“Mbavu Destroyer cannot continue with the fight; we are now going back to the scorecards… The winner by TKO is red corner Portifas Odipo, aka Majembe,” announced the match commissioner to a roaring crowd, confirming the result after judges’ scores overwhelmingly favoured Majembe.

“Congratulations, Majembe (Portifas Odipo), on your victory… Both of you put up a spirited fight, delivering an entertaining match,” President Ruto said in a statement following the bout, reiterating his earlier promise of KSh1 million to each participant.
This means that Majembe is guaranteed at least KSh1 million from the presidential pledge alone. However, his total earnings are expected to be significantly higher due to additional sponsorship incentives tied to the event.
One of the headline prizes is a brand-new Toyota Noah, offered by one of the event’s main sponsors. The vehicle represents a major boost to the boxer’s winnings and underscores the growing commercial interest in locally organised sporting events.
In addition, Majembe is set to receive a Taro GP1 sport motorcycle valued at approximately KSh400,000, alongside a one-year gym membership aimed at supporting his continued training and development in the sport.

Further boosting his earnings is a public pledge made by a Kenyan well-wisher, who promised KSh1.2 million to the winner of the fight. Should this commitment be honoured, Majembe’s total cash winnings alone could rise to approximately KSh2.2 million, excluding the value of the car and other non-cash rewards.
The Vurugu Fight has been widely credited with reigniting public interest in boxing, particularly among younger audiences who followed the fighters’ journey from a viral online feud to a professional-style contest.
For Majembe, the victory marks not only a personal milestone but also a potential gateway to greater opportunities within the sport. His performance, coupled with the rewards earned, places him firmly in the spotlight as one of the emerging faces of Kenya’s boxing scene.

As the dust settles on the Vurugu Fight, stakeholders are now watching closely to see whether this momentum can be sustained, and whether similar events can continue to elevate boxing into a mainstream sporting attraction in the country.
