Senators Applaud Governor Kahiga’s Financial Discipline Amid Heated Push to Declare Him Unfit
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga received glowing praise from senators on Monday, November 4, despite facing a court petition seeking his removal from office. The senators commended his leadership and financial management, even as controversy swirls around his recent remarks.
“You’ve Done Really Well” — Senators Praise Kahiga’s Governance
Governor Kahiga appeared before the County Public Investments Committee to defend Nyeri’s Auditor General report for the 2023/2024 financial year. The committee, chaired by Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, reviewed the county’s public investments and special funds.

“You are slightly better than your colleagues,” Osotsi said. “We have serious problems with empowerment funds in other counties. Nyeri shows real progress.”
He noted that Nyeri was the first county showing active recovery of empowerment loans, unlike others where funds vanished without trace.
“This is the first county we are witnessing some level of good management in the empowerment funds,” Osotsi added.
“Compared to Others, He’s Better Off” — Tobiko Echoes Support
“Chair, I think this governor has done fairly well in managing the majority of the funds,” Tobiko said. “Compared to his colleagues, he is better off. Governor, you have done really well.”
The senators’ praise comes at a time when Kahiga faces mounting pressure from civil society and petitioners demanding his removal.
“He Must Go” — Petitioners Accuse Kahiga of Hate Speech

“The 1st respondent continues to hold a powerful office as governor,” the petition reads. “His continued presence provides him with a platform to repeat and amplify divisive utterances.”
“Political Rhetoric or Dangerous Incitement?” — Court to Decide
The petition claims Kahiga’s remarks were not just political rhetoric but were loaded with ethnic coding and incitement. The court will determine whether his words violated constitutional values and leadership ethics.
“We must protect national unity. Leaders must be held accountable,” one petitioner stated.
As the legal battle unfolds, Kahiga’s supporters point to his performance record, while critics demand justice and accountability.
“A Governor Under Fire, Yet Applauded” — Mixed Signals Stir Debate

“We need leaders who unite and deliver. Not one or the other,” said a Nyeri resident.
As the court prepares to hear the case, the nation watches closely.
