Raila Dies: Ruto Convenes Security Council, Cabinet Meetings as Parliament Session Adjourned
Kenya has been plunged into mourning following reports of the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in India.

The urgent meetings come hours after news broke that the ODM leader collapsed during a morning walk in Kerala’s Ernakulam district.
He was reportedly receiving Ayurvedic treatment before being rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at 9:53 a.m. (Indian time).
Parliament Adjourns Amid Tension
At Parliament Buildings, the atmosphere turned somber as National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula made an abrupt announcement.
He invoked his authority to suspend the morning sitting, telling members:
“I will invoke my authority under Standing Order Number One and direct as follows; the sitting of this House is adjourned. We will have a sitting at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon when the Speaker will give you some important communication.”

Government Yet to Confirm Death
While President Ruto’s office has yet to issue an official confirmation, several senior officials have hinted that the government will address the nation later in the day.
According to sources, the President is expected to release an official statement after concluding the Security Council meeting at State House.
Meanwhile, ODM’s Director of Communications Philip Etale fueled speculation when he posted a short, emotional message on X.
“I am deflated,” he wrote.
Raila’s Final Moments in India
Indian media reported that Raila collapsed within the compound of an Ayurvedic facility in Koothattukulam, Kerala.
He was rushed to a private hospital but did not make it.

His family, including his daughter, was reportedly by his side when he took his last breath.
Last week, his elder brother, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, had assured Kenyans that Raila was recovering well in India.
He said:
“There have been many rumours about our party leader’s health, but I want to confirm he is recuperating.”
Sadly, those hopeful words now echo in heartbreak.
A Nation Awaits Presidential Address
As the country awaits President Ruto’s statement, tributes continue to pour in from leaders across political divides.

From Nairobi to Kisumu, tears, prayers, and disbelief fill the streets.
Whether in politics or protest, Raila Odinga’s voice defined Kenya’s democracy.
And today, that voice has fallen silent — but its echo will never fade.
