From Viral Videos to University Halls: Kaluma Boy Awarded Full Scholarship by East African University
In a heartwarming turn of events, Kaluma Boy, the 17-year-old TikToker who captured Kenya’s heart by caring for his ailing father, has received a full university scholarship. The announcement came during a Thanksgiving Service at JCM Church in Ruiru on Sunday, October 5.
“Kaluma Boy Will Be Joining University”—Kiengei Breaks the News
Bishop Ben Kamau, popularly known as Muthee Kiengei, shared the emotional news with a jubilant congregation.

“I want to announce that Kaluma Boy will be joining the university,” Kiengei declared. “Dr. Christopher Mutembei has confirmed a full scholarship at East African University,” he added.
Kaluma will pursue a course in Sales and Marketing, with a focus on digital marketing to sharpen his online skills.
“He Deserves This”—Church Steps In, But Keeps Distance from Donations
Kiengei emphasized that Kaluma should be the biggest beneficiary of the donations raised online. However, he clarified that the church had not handled any of the funds.
“The church only sought the scholarship. We didn’t touch the money,” he explained.
This gesture follows weeks of viral TikTok videos showing Kaluma’s dedication to his father, which moved thousands across the country.

“We Planned This Together”—TikTokers Unite for Kaluma’s Family
Just a week earlier, TikTokers, the Nduthi Culture Community, and other well-wishers visited Kaluma’s home in Othaya, Nyeri. Their visit was the result of coordinated TikTok Lives and comment section campaigns.
“We saw his videos. We had to act,” said one TikToker. “He inspired us to do more,” another added.
To ensure Kaluma’s father reached the church safely, Kiengei lent his ambulance for the journey.
“We’re Building a Hospital”—TikTokers Launch New Mission
Kiengei also pledged the ambulance to a new hospital TikTokers plan to build. The facility aims to help sick Kenyans who struggle with under-resourced public hospitals.
“We’re creating a hospital for Kenyans in need,” Kiengei promised. “This ambulance will serve that mission,” he added.
“Next Is Mama Gift”—TikTokers Rally for Another Cause
After settling Kaluma’s family, TikTokers are now mobilizing support for Mama Gift, a fellow content creator with a child needing treatment in India.

“We’ll visit her on Sunday,” Kiengei said. “By Wednesday, the family will be on their way to India,” he assured.
Kaluma’s story proves that compassion, community, and digital unity can truly change lives.
