Hope is rising in Turkana County as the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) partners with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the County Government of Turkana to offer full scholarships for a Community Health Nursing Upgrading Diploma. This opportunity, announced on Monday, September 29, targets both local residents and refugees in Kakuma and Kalobeyei camps.
“We’re Opening Doors”—KMTC Announces Bold Step Toward Inclusive Education
In a powerful statement, KMTC confirmed the launch of the two-year distance learning program at its Lodwar campus. The initiative aims to empower underserved communities through education and healthcare training.

“KMTC, in collaboration with UNHCR and Turkana County, is offering training opportunities for an Upgrading Diploma in Community Health Nursing,” the statement read. “The scholarship targets the local community and refugee populations in Kakuma and Kalobeyei,” it added.
UNHCR will fully fund tuition for successful applicants who meet the outlined criteria.
“You Must Qualify”—Eligibility Requirements for Applicants
To qualify, applicants must hold a Certificate in Community Health Nursing, have at least two years of work experience, and be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
“Applicants must also submit an introduction letter from their chief or a UNHCR officer,” KMTC emphasized.
This ensures that both local and refugee applicants are properly vetted and supported.
