Moja Expressway Dismisses Fake Road Closure Claims Ahead of Gachagua’s Return
The Moja Expressway Company has dismissed claims that parts of the Nairobi Expressway and roads leading to the CBD were closed ahead of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s arrival in Nairobi.
Company Breaks Silence
The operator of the expressway confirmed that the viral statement circulating on social media was fake.
“We have seen the post circulating on social media. We wish to clarify that the circular is fake, and we have not issued any official statement on the matter. We urge the public to rely on our official communication platforms for accurate information regarding the expressway,” the company said.
The firm added that traffic along the Nairobi Expressway was flowing normally and operations were uninterrupted.

Fake Circular Causes Confusion
The false statement, dated Thursday, August 21, 2025, alleged that sections of the expressway were closed due to an unplanned procession by Gachagua’s supporters. The misinformation sparked panic among motorists heading into the city.
Gachagua’s Return From US
On August 14, he announced that he was cutting short his visit, promising to resume it in early 2026.
“I had a very successful and fulfilling visit to the United States of America with serious engagements with Kenyans in the Diaspora. I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining States since I need to get back home to join our party, DCP, in preparation for the upcoming by-elections in various parts of our country,” Gachagua explained.
Supporters have already camped at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) waiting for his arrival.
Murkomen Demands Statement
However, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has warned that Gachagua must record a statement once he lands in Kenya over his controversial remarks in the US.

“I want to say, without fear of contradiction, because he has said that he has information and he knows, and that he has an agent who is holding meetings with Al-Shabaab, as soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly which meetings he is having with terrorists,” Murkomen stated.
Gachagua has downplayed the CS’s directive, insisting he is ready for any confrontation. He even dared Murkomen to arrest him upon arrival.
