5 People Dead, 21 Injured in Grisly Crash Along Ikutha-Kasaala Road in Kitui
The fatal accident occurred at Kasarani, past Mutulu Shopping Centre, along the Ikutha-Mutulu-Kasaala Road, after the lorry reportedly lost control and overturned.

According to the police commander, the five people who died at the scene comprised one man and four women.
The bodies were taken to the mortuary at Mutomo Level 4 Sub-County Hospital, where they were awaiting further procedures.
Another 21 people were injured in the crash and were taken to Ikutha Level 4 Hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred as the lorry transported traders who were travelling to Kasaala Market, raising questions about the circumstances under which the vehicle lost control.
Images from the scene showed a white lorry lying upside down beside the road, while residents and emergency responders worked to assist the victims.
Some of the injured were seen receiving assistance as rescue efforts continued at the accident scene.
The Kitui accident came only two days after another multi-vehicle crash along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
On Tuesday, September 1, several people were injured when at least three vehicles, including a Super Metro bus, were involved in a collision at Kinungi.
The crash occurred at around 9pm, with some passengers reportedly trapped inside the wreckage following the collision.
Emergency responders were deployed to the scene and helped rescue passengers trapped inside the damaged vehicles before taking those injured to nearby hospitals.
The incidents have renewed attention on the country’s road safety situation, with official statistics showing a worrying increase in fatalities.

Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicated that 2,150 people died in road crashes during the first six months of 2026.
Road crashes continue to affect motorists, passengers, pedestrians and other road users, with authorities repeatedly urging drivers to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations.
For residents of Kitui, the Ikutha-Kasaala tragedy has once again highlighted the risks faced by people travelling on rural roads, particularly when commercial vehicles are involved.

Authorities are also expected to establish whether the lorry met all required safety and roadworthiness standards and whether the number of passengers it was carrying complied with the law.
