Uhuru Kenyatta: Some Leaders Panic When Young People Speak
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has taken a sharp swipe at President William Ruto’s government, accusing it of fearing youth voices. Speaking passionately on Friday, May 2, at the wedding of Gideon Moi’s son, James Kimoi, Uhuru praised the late President Daniel Arap Moi for empowering young leaders without intimidation.
Praising Moi’s Legacy
Uhuru described Moi as a fearless mentor who shaped Kenya’s political landscape by trusting the youth.
“I had a biological father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, who put political genes in my system,” Uhuru said.
“But I also had a political father. He wasn’t scared of young people like some people around here today.”
He credited Moi for guiding him through his early political life. Uhuru explained that Moi nurtured many young politicians without fear or panic.
Strong Message to the Youth
“You guys are the future. Don’t be cowards,” Uhuru urged.
“Don’t be put to anger. Start now. Who knows what God has in store for you?”
He promised his support and reassured youth that experienced leaders are ready to mentor and assist them.
Thinly Veiled Criticism
Uhuru’s comments came at a time of growing political unrest. Frustrated youth across Kenya have voiced concerns over unemployment, exclusion from decision-making, and stifled opportunities. His remarks, though subtle, clearly hit out at Ruto’s administration.
“When young people talk, they panic,” Uhuru said pointedly, drawing nods and applause from the crowd.
High-Profile Wedding
The glamorous event at Ol Tukai Lodge, Amboseli, brought together top political figures. Among the guests was Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who also shared warm wishes for the newlyweds.
Uhuru, beaming with joy, blessed the couple with heartfelt words.
“May your journey be filled with love, happiness, and prosperity,” he said.
