“It was a challenging day for our teams at Nyayo Stadium, responding to a stampede that left many in need of urgent care,” the organization stated.

“Our team was in action at the Nyayo National Stadium following a stampede during the State Funeral of the Late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga,” the MSF rescue team added. “We provided care, psychosocial support, and medical evacuations alongside other emergency response partners.”
The shocking incident came barely 24 hours after another tragedy at Kasarani Stadium, where scores were reportedly injured and several allegedly died during a similar viewing event.
Within minutes, what had been a peaceful tribute turned into scenes of distress. The once-filled stadium fell silent as medics attended to the injured.
On Saturday, Medical Services Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga confirmed that at least 100 individuals were treated after sustaining injuries during the Kasarani incident.
“We would like to request Kenyans to keep calm and maintain order. We are all mourning; we should maintain peace,” said Dr. Oluga.
He emphasized that emotions should not lead to further loss of life.

“Let us not be aggressive in our efforts,” he added. “Yesterday, there was chaos at Kasarani, and people got injured. Approximately 100 people received treatment. Please, we do not want people to get injured again.”
Security around all viewing centers has since been tightened as the government vows to prevent further chaos ahead of Odinga’s final burial in Bondo, Siaya County, on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
