Susan Kihika Returns Home to Warm Welcome After Months Abroad: “A Season of Double Blessings”
After months of public debate and heated criticism, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika is finally home.
On Friday, April 25, Kihika shared emotional photos showing friends and family gathered at her home. Smiling broadly, she thanked them for their overwhelming love and support.
“Truly blessed and overwhelmed with gratitude. I was deeply humbled and honored to receive a warm visit from my dear friends who came to welcome me home and celebrate the arrival of my twin babies,” Kihika wrote on Facebook.
A Long Stay Sparks Outrage
Kihika’s absence, lasting over five months, had caused a storm back in Nakuru. Although she cited maternity leave, critics quickly pointed out that Kenyan law grants only 90 days.
Many residents grew frustrated. They accused her of abandoning her duties and leaving a leadership vacuum during critical times.
Shockingly, the matter escalated beyond local protests.
One citizen, Evans Kimori, even wrote a letter to former US President Donald Trump, requesting help in forcing Kihika’s return.
“On behalf of the residents of Nakuru, I respectfully request your intervention in facilitating her return to Kenya so that she can resume her duties,” Kimori pleaded.
Mounting Pressure Amid Leadership Concerns
Throughout her absence, concerns about Nakuru’s leadership grew louder. Services like the War Memorial Hospital reportedly suffered. Residents felt abandoned, and petitions were filed demanding answers from the County Assembly.
Kimori’s letter further fueled emotions, stating:
“The people of Nakuru deserve accountable leadership, and her continued stay in the U.S. undermines the trust and democratic mandate placed on her by the electorate.”
Defenders Rally Behind Kihika
However, not everyone joined the attacks. Several women leaders, including Moses Kuria, Millicent Omanga, and Beatrice Elachi, stood up for Kihika.
They defended her right to maternity leave and slammed the backlash as gender-based discrimination.
Kihika, even while away, frequently updated citizens about Nakuru’s ongoing projects. She remained connected, though physically absent.
Homecoming Celebrated with Joy
Now back, Kihika looks forward to resuming full duties.
“Your love, prayers, and presence mean the world to me and my family. Thank you for standing with me in this special season of double blessings,” she added.
Clearly, Kihika’s return marks both a political and personal milestone, setting the stage for her next chapter in Nakuru’s leadership.
