Highway Turns Into a War Zone
The explosion brought traffic along the busy Nakuru–Nairobi Highway to a complete standstill.
“Motorists should avoid the area and use alternative routes,” a traffic officer warned.
The highway remained impassable for hours as firefighters and police sealed off the scene to prevent further harm. Meanwhile, videos circulating online showed residents filming the burning wreckage, standing dangerously close to the flames.

Police and the Nakuru County Government had yet to release an official statement by Saturday morning. However, emergency officials assured the public that the situation was under control and cleanup efforts were underway.
Growing Concern After Series of Fire Disasters
The tanker inferno comes just days after a deadly blaze in Kibra, Nairobi, displaced over 100 families.
That fire, which erupted on June 11, left residents homeless and devastated. Narrow access roads delayed firefighting efforts, leading to massive property destruction.
“Fires are becoming too frequent in our towns,” lamented CS Geoffrey Ruku. “The government is committed to ending this crisis. We will act.”
Ruku pledged immediate emergency aid to affected Kibra families and promised long-term fire safety reforms in informal settlements.
Final Word
As Kenyans call for better fire safety preparedness, today’s explosion serves as yet another harrowing reminder of the deadly risks posed by fuel transportation and poor emergency infrastructure.
