Ruto Declares Readiness to Step Down if Defeated in 2027: “Nitaenda Kulima
Speaking before a crowd of supporters, the president promised to return home quietly and resume farming if voters choose another leader. His message came as part of a larger call for patience and focus from his critics.
“If I Lose, I Will Go Home”
“If I win the elections, I will continue ruling,” Ruto began. “If I don’t win, I will go back home and continue farming. There’s no problem.”
The statement triggered emotional reactions across the crowd, many applauding the president’s humility. Some, however, were left in disbelief at his calm approach to a possible exit from power.

Focus on Work, Not Politics
Furthermore, Ruto used the platform to urge all leaders to shift their attention from early political campaigns. He insisted that leaders must focus on serving the people who elected them.
“Is there any point in having discussions right now?” he asked. “Let everyone focus on the job Kenyans gave them.”
Ruto Lists Achievements with Confidence
To back his words, the president listed key achievements under his leadership. In education, he emphasized the hiring of 76,000 teachers and stronger support for universities and TVET institutions.
“You asked me to improve the education sector, and I have done that,” he stated confidently. “I’ve made sure the CBC system is running well.”
He also touched on infrastructure and agriculture—two sectors vital to Mt. Kenya. “I have improved the agriculture sector by ensuring farmers receive better pay,” he said.
Moreover, Ruto assured citizens that roads are being built, electricity is expanding, and modern markets are under construction.
“I Will Take My Exams, You Will Grade Me”
Ending his speech with a powerful metaphor, the president said, “I will take my exams, and you will be the ones to grade them.”
The statement drew loud cheers. Many felt it showed maturity, humility, and a willingness to be accountable.
Conclusion: A Leader or a Farmer, Ruto is Ready
President Ruto’s message was clear. Whether he continues to lead or returns to farming, he is ready. Until then, he wants time to fulfill his promises.
