ODM Leader Oburu Odinga Hospitalised, Family Plans Specialist Treatment in UK
The 82-year-old politician has reportedly been receiving medical attention at a Nairobi hospital since Sunday, August 30. The development comes at a politically sensitive period for ODM, which has been experiencing internal disagreements and heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
However, the reports have not been independently verified, and neither Oburu’s family nor ODM has issued a detailed public statement on his condition.

Family considers treatment in UK
Sources familiar with the situation said Oburu’s family is considering taking him to the United Kingdom for specialised medical care if his doctors recommend the move.
The decision would come as relatives closely monitor his recovery in Nairobi. Only close family members and relatives have reportedly been allowed regular access to the senator, following guidance from his medical team.
Several ODM officials are also said to have visited Oburu in hospital on Monday, August 31.
Despite the reports about his hospitalisation, there has been no official announcement indicating that the senator is in critical condition.
Oburu last seen in public playing golf
Oburu was last seen publicly on Saturday, August 29, just a day before his reported hospitalisation.

His absence from public political engagements has since attracted attention, particularly because of his position as ODM party leader.
Previous health rumours
The latest reports have also revived earlier speculation surrounding Oburu’s health.
Oburu has also previously taken breaks from public activities.
The current hospitalisation is therefore the latest development involving the senator’s health.
As of Tuesday, September 1, there had been no detailed medical update from Oburu’s family, ODM officials or the hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The situation is being closely watched as ODM navigates internal political challenges while preparing for the next electoral cycle. Any decision to seek specialised treatment abroad is expected to depend on Oburu’s condition and the recommendations of his medical team.
