NAKURU TRAGEDY: Grief, Anger as Sex Worker “Zuchu” is Found Dead in Lodging

Shock and grief gripped Umoja Estate in Nakuru after the lifeless body of a popular commercial sex worker was discovered in a local lodging.

Faith Otieno, affectionately known by her street name Zuchu, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the morning of Sunday, July 27. Her sudden death has left a trail of pain and fury among her friends and fellow workers.

Lodging attendants were the first to stumble upon the body.

“We knocked several times, but there was no response. When we opened, we found her lifeless,” a staff member tearfully shared.

The discovery triggered immediate outrage. Within minutes, dozens of emotional friends and colleagues gathered outside the lodging. Chanting slogans, holding placards, and crying uncontrollably, they demanded swift justice for their fallen friend.

“This is not the first time one of us has been killed,” one protester shouted.
“We are tired of living in fear!”

What angered the crowd even more was the alleged delay in police response. Witnesses claimed that it took hours for officers to arrive at the scene.

“Why does it always take a death for our voices to be heard?” another woman lamented.
“We are also human beings and deserve protection.”

When police finally showed up, the atmosphere turned tense. Tearful wails filled the air. Friends broke down as the body was removed from the lodging.

Detectives from Nakuru County launched investigations immediately. Although details remain scanty, authorities promised to leave no stone unturned.

“We are handling this as a possible homicide,” a senior detective said.
“We are collecting CCTV footage and have already begun tracing her last known contacts.”

Even so, the protesters are skeptical. They fear that, like many similar cases, Zuchu’s death will fade from public memory.

“We want real justice,” one mourner cried.
“We want to know who did this and why!”

Community activists joined in, demanding better treatment and recognition of sex workers in Kenya.

“The stigma must end,” a rights advocate stated.
“Zuchu had a right to live, to work, and to be protected.”

As her family prepares to lay her to rest, the bigger question remains: Who killed Zuchu — and will justice ever be served?
