Mudavadi Reveals Western Kenya’s Political Plan Beyond Ruto’s 2027 Re-election
Mudavadi announced the movement on Saturday, August 15, saying it would bring together political and community leaders from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga and Trans Nzoia counties.
The initiative is expected to establish grassroots structures across the region and encourage residents to participate actively in elections.

“Western Kenya’s future cannot be defined by elections every five years. It must be built every day through stronger representation, development, and opportunities that improve people’s lives.”
“With that bigger picture in mind, I launched the Magharibi Movement, bringing together political and community leaders from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga and Trans Nzoia to give our people a stronger platform to shape the region’s future.”
Grassroots Mobilisation Begins in Kakamega
The Magharibi Movement began its grassroots mobilisation programme in Kakamega County on Saturday, with representatives drawn from 12 sub-counties.
The organisers are expected to expand the network to other parts of Western Kenya as the 2027 elections approach.
Mudavadi said political participation would be central to the movement’s strategy, urging residents to register as voters and take part in the electoral process.
Mudavadi’s announcement comes as political leaders across Kenya intensify efforts to build alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Western Kenya has emerged as one of the key political battlegrounds, with both the government and opposition seeking to consolidate support in the region.
Western Kenya Becomes Political Battleground

The opposition has been pushing for greater political independence for the region and has suggested that Western Kenya could produce a presidential candidate in 2027.
The government side, however, is seeking to retain its support base in the region by presenting Ruto’s administration as a vehicle for development and greater representation.
Mudavadi’s movement is therefore expected to play a role in coordinating support for the president while advancing regional political interests.
Beyond the 2027 Election
The movement’s leaders have indicated that the region’s political future should not be determined solely by presidential election cycles.
The initiative is expected to focus on voter registration, grassroots organisation, development priorities and political representation.
This long-term approach could shape how Western Kenya positions itself after the 2027 elections.

For Mudavadi, the Magharibi Movement offers an opportunity to organise Western Kenya around a common political platform while backing Ruto in 2027.
For the opposition, the challenge will be to counter that mobilisation and convince voters that an alternative political path would better serve the region’s interests.
With political realignments already underway, Western Kenya is likely to remain central to Kenya’s 2027 election strategy, while the region’s longer-term ambitions could influence the country’s political direction beyond Ruto’s next presidential contest.
