Manyatta MP Mukunji Says Armed Police Tried to Arrest Him at Home
Mukunji made the allegations while speaking during a church service in Manyatta Constituency, where he said he had received information that police officers were looking for him.

He said he eventually made his way to the church, where he addressed worshippers about the events surrounding the alleged attempted arrest.
“Today has been a challenging day for me. I am waiting for them to come and arrest me here at the house of God. I had made the decision that, even if they try to invade my house, I will sneak using a boda boda until I come here.”
Mukunji further alleged that efforts had been made to prevent him from attending the church service.
“They had done everything to see to it that I do not make it here, that I am stuck in that house.”
The National Police Service said a group of individuals attempted to breach the meeting, prompting officers to intervene and disperse them.
According to police, several people were injured during the confrontation, while six vehicles were torched. The NPS also confirmed that one person was fatally injured.
Several suspects were arrested at the scene as investigations into the incident continued.
Kindiki has linked the lawmaker to the violence, although investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
“The harassment of Hon. Gitonga Mukunji by Kithure Kindiki and Cecilly Mbarire is unacceptable. Hundreds of policemen are surrounding his Embu home with orders to arrest him for the violent clashes between citizens and police yesterday in Embu.”
Gachagua also shared screenshots that he said showed communication between Mukunji and Kindiki.
One of the messages attributed to the Deputy President accused Mukunji of directly challenging him.
“My brother, I have always respected you and your decision not to work with us. However, you have decided to fight me directly, but there is no problem; I am ready.”
The claims have intensified political tensions in Embu following the violence at Kindiki’s meeting.

The latest developments have also raised questions over the alleged police pursuit of political leaders linked to the incident.
As investigations continue, authorities are expected to determine whether political actors were involved in planning or encouraging the violence and whether further arrests will follow.
