Kimani Ichung’wah Hints Parliament Won’t Impeach CS Justin Muturi: “Not Worth Our Time”

The National Assembly’s Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has shed light on why parliament is unlikely to push for the impeachment of Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Justin Muturi. Speaking during the tabling of the vetting report for CS nominees, Ichung’wah criticized the idea, emphasizing that MPs should focus on oversight rather than unnecessary political drama.

Calls for Resignation Instead of Impeachment

Ichung’wah addressed the August House, stating that cabinet secretaries who feel overwhelmed or unfit for their roles should take the honorable route and resign.

“Mr. Speaker, cabinet secretaries are not people to waste our time on,” he said. “The honorable thing a CS who feels they have failed or are too big for the job can do is resign. They should not waste our time or the president’s time.”

His remarks seemed directed at CS Justin Muturi, who has faced mounting criticism and impeachment threats.

Targeting Corruption and Extortion

Ichung’wah further emphasized that no ministry is superior to another if the focus is genuine public service. However, he warned against those motivated by corrupt deals.

“If your motivation is extortion and deals in government, you may think one ministry is more lucrative than another,” he noted. This jab appeared to reflect frustrations with perceived misconduct within government ranks.

Impeachment Threats Against Muturi

Kenya Kwanza Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro had earlier announced plans to impeach Muturi, accusing him of undermining the government. Osoro criticized Muturi’s public remarks on the administration’s handling of abductions and his perceived alliance with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“CS Muturi should issue a public apology, resign from office, or face impeachment by parliament,” Osoro declared.

Muturi’s Defiant Response

CS Justin Muturi, however, brushed off the impeachment threats with bold defiance. He challenged the Ruto-allied MPs to proceed with their plans, dismissing them as politically inexperienced.

“This issue is not worth my response,” Muturi said. “Anyone who thinks I was out of my mind is in for a rude shock.”

His response highlighted his refusal to bow to pressure, signaling a brewing political storm between him and certain factions of parliament.

What Lies Ahead?

As tensions rise, the debate over Muturi’s future reflects deeper divisions within government leadership. While some argue for accountability, others warn against wasting parliamentary time. For now, the fate of CS Justin Muturi hangs in the balance as the political drama unfolds.
