KDF Kills 5 Al Shabaab Militants in Boni Forest
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have killed at least five Al Shabaab militants in a fierce operation inside Boni Forest, Lamu County. The Tuesday, August 26, operation was part of the ongoing mission to flush out the extremists.
KDF Launches Successful Patrol
According to military officials, the heavily armed militants were neutralised during an intelligence-led patrol in Lacta Mangai, deep inside Boni Forest. Several others escaped with injuries.

KDF hailed the mission as a major breakthrough in restoring peace in the region.
“Together, we will exterminate terrorism and ensure a peaceful Boni,” KDF stated.

Military commanders expressed optimism that such decisive action will help residents reclaim their peace.
“We are determined to restore lasting security so families can live without fear,” officers said.
Call for Public Vigilance
Even as they celebrated the success, KDF urged citizens to remain alert and assist in the fight against extremism.
“We call on Kenyans to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods. Victory over terrorism requires everyone,” the officers added.
Fear Still Lingers
Despite the milestone, residents remain anxious after last month’s chilling attack in Basuba village. On July 25, suspected Al Shabaab militants stormed homes and later attacked a nearby General Service Unit (GSU) camp.
“They struck at night around 9 pm. We hid in fear as bullets flew everywhere,” one villager recounted.
The firefight lasted an hour before the militants fled. Fortunately, no deaths were reported.

Hope for Peace
For years, Boni Forest has served as a sanctuary for Al Shabaab fighters. However, locals now believe the latest victories prove the tide is turning. Families who once lived in fear are beginning to hope that the nightmare of extremist violence may finally end
