A viral resignation letter claiming that Governor James Orengo had quit his role over health issues sent shockwaves across Siaya County. The letter, shared widely on social media on Monday, August 4, alleged that Orengo had stepped down “with immediate effect.”

But Orengo’s office has now broken the silence, terming the letter “fake and misleading.”

Speaking exclusively, a source close to the governor clarified:
“That is not true. The letter is fake.”

Letter Cited Health Concerns and Family Consultations

In the widely circulated letter, allegedly addressed to the Siaya County Assembly Speaker, Orengo was quoted saying:
“It is with a heavy heart and after profound reflection that I hereby tender my resignation… This decision has been necessitated by personal health challenges that require my full and immediate attention.”

The letter claimed the decision followed extensive consultations with his family and doctors. It portrayed a man overwhelmed by the weight of office and seeking healing.

ODM Party Swiftly Responds

Soon after, the ODM party also stepped in to quash the rumors.

In a firm tweet, the Raila Odinga-led outfit stated:
“We can authoritatively state the letter below is fake. Ignore it and focus.”

Their statement echoed the growing concern over false narratives spreading online, especially during times of political uncertainty.

Where Is Orengo? Public Demands Answers

Despite the clarification, many Kenyans remain concerned. Governor Orengo has not been seen publicly for over a month. While his social media accounts remain active, his physical absence from county duties has sparked widespread speculation.

Several Kenyans took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their worries:
