Faith Kipyegon Storms to Victory in Silesia, Misses 3000m World Record by Seconds
Kenya’s golden girl Faith Kipyegon has once again proven why she is one of the greatest athletes in history. On Saturday, August 16, she won the women’s 3000m race at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland with a breathtaking performance.
A Historic Run
Kipyegon clocked an astonishing 8:07.04. She came agonizingly close to breaking the long-standing world record of 8:06.11, set by Wang Junxia in 1993.
The mother of two has now etched her name deeper into history as the second-fastest woman ever over 3000m.
Multiple Records Shattered
Her victory was not just about winning. It came with a storm of records.

Kipyegon revealed the race demanded her trademark mix of speed and endurance.
“The 3000m needs both the speed I carry from the 1500m and the endurance I use in 5000m. I gave everything today,” she told reporters after the win.
Dominating the Field
She ran with such dominance that her rivals trailed nearly 200m behind. The second and third-place finishers clocked 8:34.53 and 8:35.51.
Her coach, clearly emotional, praised her unmatched drive.
“Faith is redefining women’s athletics. To come this close to a record that stood for 32 years is unbelievable,” he said.
A Career of Breaking Barriers
This was Kipyegon’s first official attempt at the 3000m since she was 20. Few expected such a staggering time, but she has made a habit of rewriting expectations.
She remains the only woman in history to win three Olympic 1500m titles — Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024.
Her 2025 season has been exceptional. In June, she ran the fastest mile ever in an exhibition event. And in July, she lowered her own 1500m world record to 3:48.68, the third time she has broken that mark.

Fans React With Pride
One fan posted,
“Faith Kipyegon is not just running for herself, she is carrying the Kenyan flag higher every time.”
Another wrote,
“She inspires every little girl to dream bigger. She is a legend living among us.”
Eyes on the World Record
Though the world record still stands, many believe it is only a matter of time before Kipyegon smashes it.
“I came very close today. I will keep pushing. The world record is within reach,” she promised.
