Elgeyo Marakwet MCA Jeremiah Kibiwott Dies at Nairobi Hospital
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Endo Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum, has died while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital after a prolonged illness.
The passing of the legislator, popularly known as Jeremiah Biwott or Jeremiah Toriebe, was confirmed on Thursday, sending shockwaves across the county assembly and the wider Elgeyo Marakwet community. Kibiwott had served as the elected MCA for Endo Ward in Marakwet East Sub-County since 2022, following his election on a UDA ticket.
Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly Speaker Lawi Kibire described Kibiwott’s death as a major loss to both the assembly and the residents he represented, noting that the late MCA was known for his consultative leadership style and commitment to public service.

“It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that I wish to inform the public of the passing of Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum, the elected Member of County Assembly for Endo Ward in Marakwet East Sub-County,” Kibire said in a statement.
“The late Kibiwott served the Assembly and the people of Endo Ward with dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of duty.
The speaker added that Kibiwott consistently involved his constituents in decision-making, ensuring their voices were represented in legislative processes at the county level.
During his tenure, Kibiwott chaired the influential Committee on Agriculture and Irrigation, where he played a key role in shaping policies aimed at improving food security, irrigation infrastructure, and agricultural productivity in the county. Colleagues described him as a hands-on leader who maintained close engagement with farmers and local cooperatives.
In addition to his chairmanship role, Kibiwott served as an active member of several other committees, including Administration, Justice, Public Service and ICT, as well as the Tourism, Trade, Cooperatives, Industrialisation, and Wildlife Committee. His broad committee involvement positioned him as a central figure in legislative debates touching on governance, economic development, and public service delivery.

Governor Wisley Rotich also paid tribute to the late MCA, offering condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Endo Ward. The governor acknowledged Kibiwott’s contribution to county governance since his election in 2022 and called on leaders and residents to stand with the family during the mourning period.
“With the permission of the family here at Nairobi Hospital, I wish to notify the EMC community and the Endo Ward community that Jeremiah Biwott has passed on,” Rotich said.
“I wish to convey my sincere condolences to the family, friends, leaders, teachers, the Speaker, his fellow MCAs, the people of Endo, and the entire Elgeyo Marakwet community.”
Following the announcement, messages of condolence continued to pour in from fellow MCAs, local leaders, and residents, many describing Kibiwott as approachable, humble, and deeply committed to grassroots development.

Kibiwott’s death leaves a leadership gap in Endo Ward, where residents now await guidance from electoral authorities on the way forward, in accordance with the law. As the county mourns, leaders have called for unity and calm as they honour the life and service of the late MCA.
