DCI Summons Karungo Thang’wa Over Chaos at Gachagua’s Event
Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). This comes after chaos erupted during a funeral in Limuru. The event, held at Bibirioni Boys High School on November 28, was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Funeral Turns Chaotic
The burial for Erastus Nduati took a dramatic turn when rowdy individuals disrupted the event. Videos shared online showed mourners witnessing the uprooting of the VIP tent and destruction of chairs. The commotion forced Gachagua to leave abruptly without addressing the mourners.
Why DCI Summoned Thang’wa
In a notice dated November 28, DCI Officer Joseph Chirchir instructed Thang’wa to cooperate with the investigation. The notice accused him of possessing information on property damage and injuries caused during the incident.
“I, CI Joseph Chirchir, am making inquiries into alleged malicious damage to property and injuries at Bibirioni Boys High School playground on 28/11/2024. I believe Senator Paul Karungo Thang’wa has information to assist with the investigation,” stated the notice.
Thang’wa was ordered to appear at the Regional Criminal Investigations Office (RCIO) in Nyeri on Friday, November 29, at 10 a.m. The directive cited Section 52(1) of the National Police Act.
Thang’wa Accuses Authorities of Intimidation
The senator expressed his frustration on Facebook, accusing authorities of intimidation. He questioned the choice of Nyeri for the summons, despite the incident occurring in Limuru.
“They refuse to meet us at the CID headquarters on Kiambu Road but shamelessly summon us to Nyeri over an incident in Limuru. This intimidation won’t silence us,” Thang’wa stated.
Gachagua’s Security Woes Continue
This chaos comes days after Gachagua claimed the government withdrew his security detail. He accused state operatives of targeting him for allegedly leading dissent against President William Ruto. Sources in the Interior Ministry suggested a deliberate effort to curtail Gachagua’s influence and prevent premature campaigns.
