Charles Ong’ondo Were: Prime Suspect in Kasipul MP’s Murder Claims to Be Police Officer
Dramatic Arrest Near USIU
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the arrest of four suspects linked to Were’s cold-blooded murder. The prime suspect, believed to have fired the fatal shot, was nabbed at 2 a.m. along Thika Road, near the United States International University (USIU).
Detectives also recovered the suspect’s car, reportedly used to trail Were before the brutal shooting.
Suspect Claims to Be a Cop
In a shocking confession, the suspect told police he is an officer attached to the Administration Police Service (APS). He produced an APS Certificate of Appointment during his arrest.
However, questions swirled as detectives revealed the man had not reported for duty in months.
“We have forwarded his details to APS headquarters at Jogoo House for verification,” a detective disclosed.
Motorcycle Recovered in Dandora
NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga confirmed crucial evidence was seized along with the motorcycle.

“Some suspects are members of organised criminal gangs like Mjahidin, linked to armed robberies in Nairobi’s Eastlands,” Muchiri revealed.
ODM Demands Justice
Tensions flared within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following these arrests. Angry ODM lawmakers accused the Kenya Kwanza government of dragging its feet in solving Were’s murder.
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, while addressing mourners at Were’s Kasipul home, delivered an emotional plea.
“My late colleague didn’t deserve to die in such a brutal gun attack,” Kaluma said.
“We demand justice. The government must come clean and bring the killers to book.”
Kaluma also issued a political warning.
“The ODM-UDA cooperation won’t continue unless Were’s killers are arrested,” he declared.
Ruto Promises Action
President William Ruto responded swiftly. Speaking in Migori on Sunday, May 4, he reassured Kenyans that justice will be served.

“My government will deploy all resources to find Were’s killers,” Ruto promised.
“We do not condone lawlessness.”
Investigation Intensifies
Meanwhile, detectives are piecing together vital leads as the nation watches closely. The murder of Charles Ong’ondo Were has shaken Kenya’s political scene, and the quest for justice has just begun.
