In a sweeping move to improve service delivery, three Cabinet Secretaries — Soipan Tuya (Defence), Davis Chirchir (Transport), and Salim Mvurya (Sports) — announced major appointments in their ministries.
Tuya Strengthens KDF Pension Committee
Defence CS Soipan Tuya made a key appointment to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Pensions Appeals Committee.
In the latest gazette notice, she named Joseph Kivunzi as the new chairperson for a three-year term.
Tuya emphasized,
“We are committed to ensuring military officers get their rightful pensions without unnecessary delays.”
Kivunzi joins a committee already composed of senior military officers, including Colonels Joseph Yator, Lewis Muluvi, and Muthomi Nchuurai, appointed in January.
Also part of the team are Brigadiers Jeremiah Maroko and Kioko Mwololo, who joined in February. The committee’s key mandate is to streamline and oversee the military pension appeals process.
Chirchir Appoints Kibet, Drops Omingo
On the same day, Transport CS Davis Chirchir shook up the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) board by appointing Emmanuel Kibet as a new board member for three years.
While confirming the appointment, Chirchir said,
“Kibet’s experience and integrity will strengthen our drive for efficient port services.”
This appointment came with a twist. Peter Omingo, the previous holder of the role, was dropped.
But his public service didn’t end there.
Mvurya Recycles Omingo in New Role
Just hours after his dismissal, Sports CS Salim Mvurya reappointed Peter Omingo to the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya board. He will serve alongside Mohamed Mraja for three years.
Mvurya praised Omingo’s expertise, saying,
“We believe his experience is valuable in keeping Kenyan sports clean and competitive.”
AG Dorcas Oduor Forms 16-Member Legal Taskforce
Meanwhile, Attorney General Dorcas Oduor unveiled a 16-member taskforce to develop the National Council on the Administration of Justice Bill.
She stated,
“This bill will bring cohesion and accountability to the justice sector.”
The taskforce includes high-profile legal minds like Lady Justice Patricia Nyaundi, Moses Marang’a, Mary Wairagu, and Vincent Monda, among others.
Their task: draft a bill that ensures timely, fair, and coordinated justice across Kenya.
Government Restructuring in Motion
Friday’s appointments signal a clear message — the government is actively shaking up its systems to improve delivery.
From military pensions to port management and sports integrity, each CS seems determined to push for results.
As Tuya stated,
“Change is necessary if we want efficiency and fairness in our public service.”
