Blogger Billy Mwangi Fears for His Life After Post Targeting Albert Ojwang’s Father
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, June 19, the 24-year-old disclosed that he had received numerous threats since a post bearing his name appeared online. The post had criticised Meshack Ojwang for accepting Ksh2 million from President William Ruto after the death of his son in police custody.
“It is true that I have been receiving threats through text messages on my phone,” said Mwangi.
He added that he took immediate action by visiting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices on Kiambu Road.
“I tried reporting the matter to the DCI, but no action has been taken so far,” he noted with frustration.
Social Media Storm
The threats, according to Mwangi, began after an X account using his name shared a post urging Kenyans to “greet” Ojwang for accepting the alleged compensation from the government. Mwangi now fears the backlash could escalate
“I began receiving these messages after an X account bearing my name shared Albert Ojwang’s number,” he revealed.
Despite the account using his identity, Mwangi strongly denied involvement in the post, stating that his real X account had been suspended.
Denies Connection to Post
“My X account is currently suspended. It was suspended because I changed the password several times, not because of any wrong post,” he clarified.
The blogger further claimed that fake accounts are being created to damage his reputation and link him to controversies he knows nothing about.
“Some people have opened X accounts using my name. They’re trying to frame me,” he lamented.
Political Dreams Amid Threats
Billy Mwangi, who survived an alleged abduction in December last year, has been rising in popularity after revealing his political ambition. On June 1, during a rally in Embu, he announced plans to run for the Embu Senate seat in 2027.
“I will stand up for the youth. For free speech and justice. I ask the people of Embu to support my bid,” he declared passionately.
Mwangi also called on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for support.
“Let the DP give me a job so I can serve my people better,” he appealed.
As the threats persist and security concerns rise, Kenyans are watching closely, waiting to see how the authorities will respond.
