The light aircraft, a Cessna Citation XLS, took off from Wilson Airport at exactly 2:17 pm, bound for Hargeisa, Somalia. Minutes later, it plunged into a residential area, bursting into flames on impact.
In a statement, AMREF confirmed the crash and expressed deep sorrow.
“At this time, we are cooperating fully with relevant aviation authorities and emergency response teams to establish the facts,” the organisation stated.
They added:
“Our immediate focus is on the safety and well-being of those on board and providing full support to their families and colleagues.”

Eyewitness Accounts of the Crash
Locals described the horrifying moment the aircraft appeared unusually low before slamming into the ground.
“We heard a loud bang and immediately rushed to the scene. The aircraft was already on fire, and some bodies could be seen,” said one Githurai resident.
Police swiftly cordoned off the crash site to secure evidence. Officers warned residents against approaching without permission, citing safety and investigation concerns.
Crashes involving light aircraft remain alarmingly common in Kenya. Aviation experts warn that each incident underscores the need for stricter maintenance checks and improved pilot training.
