IEBC Launches Observer and Voter Educator Accreditation Ahead of 2025 By-Elections
Nairobi – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially kick-started its preparations for the upcoming by-elections by opening up the accreditation process for voter education providers, election observers, and media practitioners.
In a move that signals the early momentum towards the 2025/2026 electoral season, IEBC issued a public notice on Wednesday, August 6, inviting eligible organisations to apply online.
“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) invites applications from organisations wishing to be accredited as Voter Education Providers, Election Observers or Media Practitioners for the upcoming by-elections and other planned electoral activities in the 2025/2026 Financial Year,”
the commission announced.
Strict Deadline Set for Applicants
Interested organisations have until Friday, September 5, 2025, at 5:00 PM to submit their applications online. Late submissions will not be considered.

Applicants must ensure they have stable internet access when submitting their information via the IEBC Accreditation Management System (AMS) portal. A key requirement for voter education providers includes obtaining a Physical Address Authentication Form from the County Election Manager’s office.
“Organisations seeking accreditation must collect the Physical Address Authentication Form, have it filled in, and upload a scanned copy along with all other required documents to the AMS portal,”
IEBC advised.
Comprehensive Support and Training Promised
Once selected, all accredited organisations will receive comprehensive training and essential resources. These include:
- Accreditation certificates
- Identification badges
- Support materials for smooth execution of their responsibilities during the by-elections.

“The Commission shall conduct training for all accredited organisations and issue accreditation certificates, identification badges, and other support materials before they commence their duties,”
the statement added.
A Critical Step Toward Transparent Elections
This accreditation process is not just a formality. It underscores the commission’s commitment to enhancing transparency, accountability, and voter awareness during Kenya’s democratic processes. By involving multiple stakeholders early, IEBC aims to boost public confidence in the electoral process.
The initiative is also a signal to all electoral stakeholders—from NGOs to media houses—that the 2025/2026 electoral calendar is already in motion.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming by-elections, IEBC’s timely action is a strong reminder that voter education and transparent observation remain vital pillars of democracy.
