Gachagua-Linked DCP Unveils 22 Candidates as Political Storm Brews Over Delayed By-Election Dates
The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has made a bold political statement by unveiling 22 candidates for the looming by-elections.
Speaking on Tuesday, August 5, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala confirmed that the party will field candidates in every contested electoral area.
“Today, on behalf of the party leader, I am glad to unveil the following candidates in the following electoral jurisdictions,” he said.
“I would like to officially welcome them into our party.”
This move, according to Malala, proves DCP’s growing influence across the country.
Fierce Competition Sparks Internal Nominations
Interestingly, some constituencies attracted more than one DCP aspirant, revealing the party’s surging popularity. Due to this, the National Executive Council (NEC) will organize party nominations.
“We will have nominations in areas where we have more than one candidate,” Malala explained.
“It is the resolve of the NEC that these nominations will be free and fair.”
Previously, only Malava and Banissa constituencies had confirmed DCP candidates, with their campaigns already in full gear.
Malala Dismisses Claims of Candidate Withdrawal
Malala also addressed recent rumors that Aden Mohammed (Kiongozi) had dropped out of the Banissa race.
“Ignore the fake news,” he insisted.
“This is a desperate attempt by the government to intimidate DCP candidates.”
He claimed there was a deliberate scheme to frustrate the party’s momentum and create confusion among voters.
IEBC Under Fire Over Election Delays
Malala took a swipe at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for failing to announce the election date.
“The IEBC promised to release the date within a week,” Malala recalled.
“Yet up to today, nothing has been communicated.”
He accused the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) of influencing the delay because it fears defeat.
“We know UDA is not ready,” he said.
“Their own internal survey shows they can’t win in any of the 22 by-elections.”
Malala Warns Government: “Stop Interfering with IEBC”
In a powerful message to his former party, Malala urged UDA to keep off the IEBC and allow it to act independently.
“IEBC must not be intimidated,” he declared.
