Suspected Thug Guns Down Plainclothes Officer in Shocking Thika Attack

A peaceful afternoon in Cravers, Thika, turned into a scene of horror on Wednesday after a suspected thug on a boda boda shot and killed a police officer in broad daylight.

The slain officer, a constable attached to the Special Police Investigations Unit (SPIV), was on a routine patrol. He had stopped a boda boda rider whose motorcycle lacked a valid registration code, raising suspicion.

What started as a simple inspection quickly escalated into violence.

“The officer removed the ignition key after confirming the rider didn’t have valid credentials,” a witness told reporters.

Moments later, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the neck.

“The Two Crossed the Road Arguing – Then He Fired!”

Eyewitnesses said the officer and the suspect had a heated argument that led them to cross the road together.

“They started arguing. Then we saw them move to the other side of the road,” another witness recounted.
“Suddenly, we heard a loud gunshot. People screamed and ran.”

The officer was rushed to Thika Nursing Home but died from his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Suspect Drops Magazine, Flees in Hijacked Boda

Responding officers at the scene recovered a loaded Ceska magazine, believed to belong to the gun used in the attack.

Shortly after the shooting, the thug fled to a nearby estate. In a desperate escape attempt, he hijacked another boda boda that was carrying a passenger.

“He threatened me with a gun. I jumped off with my passenger,” the boda rider said during an interview.

Surveillance footage showed the suspect speeding off. However, he later abandoned the stolen motorbike, which was safely recovered by its owner.

Police Hunt Underway as Shock Rocks Thika

As of now, no arrests have been made, but detectives have launched an intensive manhunt.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive and track down the suspect,” police sources confirmed.

This incident comes amid public outrage over police conduct, with rising concerns about both officer safety and alleged extrajudicial killings.

Ironically, as police face scrutiny over brutality, one of their own has now become a victim in a country grappling with deep security concerns.
