Constable Mukhwana Spills Beans on Plot to Torture Albert Ojwang on ‘Orders From Above’

In a gripping turn of events, Constable James Mukhwana has confessed to playing a part in the torture of the late blogger Albert Ojwang.

His emotional and detailed account, shared on Monday, June 16, has implicated high-ranking police officers. Among them are Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat and OCS Samson Talaam of Nairobi’s Central Police Station.

The “Orders from Above”

Mukhwana stated he was summoned on June 7 by his boss, OCS Talaam. There, he was told a suspect would arrive that evening and needed to be “dealt with.”

“I asked what if things went wrong,” Mukhwana revealed.
“He told me I wouldn’t be blamed. I was only following orders.”

He alleged that the directive came directly from DIG Lagat, a claim that has rocked the police command structure.

The Arrival and the Agony

At exactly 9 p.m., a black Subaru delivered a handcuffed Albert Ojwang to the station. After his identity was confirmed, he was booked.

“By 9:20 p.m., he was in a cell. Soon after, I heard him scream,” Mukhwana stated.

Rushing to check, the constable saw blood flowing from Ojwang’s mouth. He quickly urged the Deputy OCS to take Ojwang to hospital.

But hours passed. Tragically, Ojwang was dead by morning.

Bribes and Cover-Up

Mukhwana further claimed that each officer was paid Ksh2,000 for the torture. Initially, the group agreed to lie to IPOA investigators.

“I gave a false statement on June 11,” he admitted.
“But the guilt became unbearable.”

On June 12, Mukhwana returned and told the truth.

“Ojwang wasn’t supposed to die—just punished. Those were the orders,” he confessed.
“My apologies to Ojwang’s family. May God be with you.”

The Aftermath

The explosive testimony comes just hours after DIG Lagat stepped aside, allowing investigations to continue.
