FIFA Drops Hammer: Muhoroni Youth Relegated Over Match-Fixing Scandal
The shocking announcement came on Friday, May 2, igniting fierce reactions across Kenya’s football community.
FIFA Cracks Down Hard
In its official statement, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee confirmed it had completed an in-depth investigation.
“Following a thorough analysis of the case and as part of its zero-tolerance policy against match manipulation, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has found Kenyan club Muhoroni Youth guilty of activities related to the manipulation of football matches and competitions,” read the statement.
FIFA didn’t stop there. It confirmed the club’s expulsion from the NSL.

“The club’s senior team have consequently been expelled from the Football Kenya Federation National Super League, and the Disciplinary Committee has further ordered the relegation of the senior team to the Football Kenya Federation Division One League ahead of next season,” the statement added.
Muhoroni’s Fall From Grace
Once a respected club from Kisumu, Muhoroni Youth rose to fame in 2012 after being promoted to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL). For years, they defied odds, punching above their weight despite scarce resources.
However, trouble loomed in 2017 when they were relegated from the KPL following licensing disputes. Now, their return to the limelight has ended in disgrace.
FKF Fully Backs FIFA’s Verdict
Back home, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) moved swiftly to confirm the sanction and pledged total support for FIFA’s stance.
“FKF fully supports FIFA’s decision and reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on match-fixing and all forms of manipulation that threaten the integrity of the game,” FKF announced in a statement.
FKF further warned that this was only the beginning of a wider crackdown.

“We are launching a full-scale war on match-fixing in collaboration with FIFA, CAF and all relevant authorities. We cannot allow this vice to undermine the progress we are making to uplift the game. Anyone found culpable will face the full consequences of their actions,” stated FKF General Secretary Harold Ndege.
A Warning to All Clubs
This case mirrors the 2020 scandal involving Zoo Kericho FC, where players were banned for match-fixing. The club was later expelled from the FKF Premier League.
What Lies Ahead?
Muhoroni Youth now faces uncertain times. Alongside relegation, Kenyan clubs involved in match-fixing risk bans, fines, point deductions, and even criminal charges.
The FKF has promised strict oversight going forward, vowing to protect the integrity of Kenyan football at all costs.
