Bystanders Encourage Man to Jump From a 6-Story Building to His Death in Nyeri County
A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Chaka, Nyeri County as a man jumped to his death from the 6th floor of the Swans Business Centre—with bystanders not just watching, but encouraging him.
In a now viral video, the man teetered on the edge, visibly in distress. Rather than offer help, those below laughed and egged him on.
“Jump, it is not far. In fact, you will not die; angels will catch you before you fall,” one bystander shouted, followed by laughter.
No Intervention, Only Mockery
Eventually, the man jumped. He died instantly.
Shockingly, the crowd’s reaction didn’t change. Even after his lifeless body hit the ground, bystanders kept laughing. They stood frozen, stunned—but not with sorrow. With satisfaction.

Kenya Reacts with Grief and Outrage
The incident has sparked national outrage. Many Kenyans are now questioning the state of empathy in society.
“Someone cheering and motivating a mentally sick person to jump, and he just finds it funny? It’s horrifying,” one person posted online.
Mental health professionals and human rights advocates are calling for urgent public education on suicide prevention and responsible crisis intervention.
No Name, No Background—Only Silence and Suffering
By the time of publication, the man’s identity remained unknown. The reasons behind his decision are still unclear.
When Jokes Kill: Kenya’s Mental Health Crisis
Kenya continues to battle a mental health emergency. Rising stress, economic hardship, and stigma make it harder for people to speak out or seek help.
In response, the government launched the Suicide Prevention Strategy 2021–2026 and the Mental Health Action Plan 2021–2025. These programs aim to improve access to care and reduce suicide rates.
Still, experts say that policies must be matched with compassion and awareness from ordinary citizens.
